Vivacity Development is proud to announce the organization of a groundbreaking
side event at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The event aims to explore the intersection of innovative solutions for “Empower Her:
Women and the Future of Work.” Through discussions on capacity development,
digital technology, innovation, and climate change adaptation/mitigation strategies,
the event seeks to inspire actionable strategies for addressing global challenges and
advancing sustainable development goals while promoting gender equality

Primary Focus

The central theme of CSW69 is a comprehensive review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, along with the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly. This evaluation aims to assess current challenges affecting the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Additionally, it will explore how these efforts contribute to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Participation and Format

CSW69 will convene representatives from UN Member States, civil society organizations, and UN entities. The session is planned to be conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual participation to accommodate a diverse range of attendees. It’s important to note that registration for the event closed on January 24, 2025.

NGO CSW69 Forum

Parallel to the official UN session, the NGO Committee on the Status of Women (NGO CSW/NY) will host the NGO CSW69 Forum. This platform provides civil society organizations an opportunity to engage in events, workshops, and initiatives that promote gender equality. The forum includes virtual parallel events, conversation circles, regional caucuses, and networking sessions. Organizations and individuals interested in participating or hosting events were required to apply before the specified deadlines.

Global Context

The convening of CSW69 occurs amidst a challenging global landscape for women’s rights. Recent reports indicate that over 600 million women and girls are currently affected by war, a 50% increase from a decade ago. This surge in conflict has led to significant setbacks in gender equality and women’s empowerment. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has highlighted the erosion of women’s leadership and inclusion in peace processes, emphasizing that power predominantly remains with men.
Furthermore, 2025 is anticipated to be marked by increased personalism, protectionism, and polarization globally. These dynamics may pose additional challenges to advancing gender equality, as international cooperation and consensus become more difficult to achieve. The expiration of key gender equality agreements, such as the EU’s Gender Action Plan III, adds to the uncertainty surrounding the future of women’s rights initiatives.

The session offers a pivotal opportunity to address existing challenges, renew commitments, and strategize on effective pathways to achieve comprehensive gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls globally.
